Why has the name changed from East Keilor to Keilor East?

Council is required to comply with the Naming rules for places in Victoria, Statutory requirements for naming roads, features and localities – 2016 (Naming Rules); Which includes the use of approved suburb locations within a facility name.
As Keilor East was gazetted as the approved suburb name by Geographical Name Victoria in 1998, the former East Keilor Leisure Centre name is not compliant under the current Naming Rules. Council has resolved to name the new centre in line with the gazetted suburb name to the Keilor East Leisure Centre

What are the requirements to use the Sauna & Steam Room?

To ensure a safe and fun environment everyone is required to:

  • Obtain a wristband from reception
  • Avoid laying down in the sauna or steam room
  • Refrain from pouring liquids onto the steam rocks
  • Use the spa pool, sauna, and steam room for no longer than 15 minutes at a time
  • Shower thoroughly before entering the facility
  • Ensure that appropriate swimwear is worn at all times
  • Refrain from spitting, shaving, and using exfoliating items/oils
  • Refrain from swallowing spa pool water
  • Sit on your own towel or kickboard whist using the sauna and steam rooms
It is not the responsibility of the centre to provide towels or kickboards, as the provision of any such item would require continuous management and cleaning. This is not the core function, role or best use of the team’s time in the poolhall, hence why they are not provided by the centre.

What are the changes to Aquatic Hours?

From Monday 11 September, the pools, Steam room and Sauna will close 15 minutes early.

What times do these changes come into effect?

Monday - Friday: Pools will close at 9:45pm. Venue closes at 10:00pm.
Saturday: Pools close at 7:45pm. Venue closes at 8:00pm.
Sunday: Pools close at 6:45pm. Venue closes at 7:00pm.
Public Holidays: Pools close at 7:45pm. Venue closes at 8:00pm.

What areas will be closing earlier?

All pool facilities (50m / 25m / Learn To Swim / Warm Water), as well as the Spa, Steam room and Sauna will all close 15 minutes before the venue closing time.

The changerooms and Gym will remain open until the venue closes.

Will there ben any reminders or announcements re: closures?

YES. We will have multiple announcements / reminders leading up to the closures.
These will be 30 minutes prior, 15 minutes prior, and at the time of closure.

Is this only happening at KELC?

No. It is a very common practice at numerous aquatic venues across Melbourne to close shortly before the venue closes.
Venues such as Brimbank Aquatic & Wellness Centre and Sunshine Leisure Centre close aquatic facilities 30 minutes prior to venue close.
Coburg Leisure Brunswick Baths, and Aquapulse, Hoppers Crossing all close their aquatic facilities 15 minutes prior to venue close.

Why are these early closures happening?

Over the past couple of months, patrons have been leaving the venue well after the venue has closed. This is a safety concern for our staff having patrons in the venue after it has closed.
This time will also allow patrons to use the changerooms whilst the reaminder of the venue is open. However, swimming patrons using these changerooms will need to leave the venue before it closes.

What do I need to wear for group fitness classes?

Whatever you feel comfortable wearing!

For group fitness classes, we recommend something light and easy to move it. It's preferable to wear some running shoes that provide you with goood support and stability.

For cycle classes, we recommend wearing clothing that you would normally wear if you were riding a bike outside - but you won't need to bring a helmet with you! If you have padded shorts (knicks), you can wear these if you feel more comfortable doing so. If you have cycle shoes, our bikes are fitted with cleats.

For aqua classes, if you don't feel comfortable wearing a bathing suit, we encourage you to wear something that will allow you to move freely in the water.

For yoga, BODYBALANCE, and mat pilates classes, please ensure that you bring your own yoga mat.

Always bring a towel and a drink bottle so you can wipe off any sweat and stay hydrated throughout the class.

We are a sporting club and want to hire space/lanes at the new facility- How do we go about that?

All lane hire and bookings can be emailed to kelcinfo@movemv.com.au
